There is a prelude scene to the spanking of Mayim Bialik that explains why she is asked if she is "prepared" to receive her punishment. It includes dialogue about his father being a man who did not spare the rod. He suggests that her punishment for lying about her health will be a spanking, she readily agrees.

Thanks, Sweetspot, for providing the "prelude" to that cute-but-no-biggie spanking scene in "The Big Bang Theory."
Have you guys been to the IMDb message board? A bunch of viewers that post THERE, have been leaving messages saying that the "spanking" is anti-women, a disgrace, and should never have happened. They are trying to make the case that such scenes are an insult to women.
But they don't realize that, in the show itself, it is AMY that wants the spanking. She was in charge all the way.
