Lost in translation:

The french original goes: "Tiens la femme! Un coup de baton le matin lui ferait du bien"
The German translation for good measure doubles the one whack (Un coup) from the French original: "Zwei Hiebe mit dem Stock am Morgen würden ihr gut tun!"
which means - "Two whacks with a stick (cane) in the morning would do her good!"

For some reason the English translation is more brutish advising "a good beating every morning" to calm her down...
