The ‘spanking scene’ from Getting Gertie’s Garter (1945) is something else again. This beautifully positioned shot, with the shapely Marie (“The Body”) McDonald draped across Barry Sullivan’s pinstriped lap, does in fact feature in the film. Barry gets home early to find Marie dallying with one of his friends. The friend makes a hasty exit and Barry advances purposefully on Marie, who backs away babbling excuses. Grabbing her, he pulls her over his knee growling, “I’m gonna teach you a good lesson for playing tricks on your old man!”, raises his hand over that superb bottom and then – lets her off.
