sitcom spanking

hi everyone, i was reading an old magazine recently and saw a article about spanking in the tv series I MARRIED JOAN. i remember watching this show, but do not remember any spanking in it. Does anyone remember this and what episodes it was. It seems nowadays that if you know the episode name or number there are sites that may have it like youtube or fancast. Any help would be appreciated. Have a great day and thank you for your time.

Hi Jim... Yeah, Joan Davis was an excellent comedienne in movies in the 1940s and '50s. She starred in her own comedy series, I Married Joan in 1952-55. And yes, there were at least two spankings (both of Joan) in that series.

Don't know the episode titles, but I remember two eps with a spanking... well, sort of. In one, her "father" comes to visit her, and it turns out that Joan had accidentally burned some old documents he needed. She knows she did wrong, and her father would normally want to punish her in some way, but he is now very elderly and can no longer spank as a father should. So Joan has the old duffer sit down, then she puts herself over his knee, and he pats her bottom -- lightly -- a few times. The saving grace of this scene is that it is superbly filmed, shown at exactly the right angle for most spankos to enjoy.

The other ep that has a spanking is one in which Joan is trying to talk some buyers of their house out of closing the deal. So she impersonates an ancient Egyptian princess or something, pretends to be a ghost, and scares the prospective buyers away. Then, Joan's husband (played by Jim Backus) comes home and cheerfully announces that he is happy the house is being sold. So now, Joan must tell him she scared the buyers away. Backus puts Joan over his knee and gives her a pretty good spanking... but I must say, Backus is no David Pierson when it comes to spanking a girl. He goes too lightly on Joan's behind, in my humble opinion.

All this, however, is eclipsed by a wonderful scene in one of Joan Davis' movies, She Wrote the Book (1946), in which she is put over Kirby Grant's knee and gets what I consider the BEST movie spanking EVER! Grant delivers about 13 on-screen smacks to Joan's derriere, and all of them land so loudly, your TEETH will hurt! Catch this scene if you can. I was never able to find it in VHS back in the day, but now they may have it out on disc.

Cheers,
Dan

thanks Dan, I remember the movie as well and like you thought it was one of the better film spankings of most of them although my favorite is THE NAUGHTY FLIRT with Alice White. There was a picture i thought somewhere of Joan Davis in some sort of of Wild costume, but i did not think it was a Egytian Princess, but some Jungle outfit and i did not see who the spanker was. Another sitcom spanking that i enjoyed was in GIDGET where the deletable Brooke Bundy gets spanked by Walter Koening ( it seems like even though Sweden has banned spanking there seems to be a lot of Swedish Spanking going on.) Thanks for responding i hope that i can find those episodes that you describe they look like they would be great finds. Have a spanking good day.

You have a good memory, jim... but then I guess a lot of us do, when it comes to mainstream spankings.

Earlier, I wrote that Joan Davis' spanking in She Wrote the Book (1946) is the BEST (i.e., hardest and best photographed) film spanking ever. I still think so, though I do share your affection for Alice White's scene with Paul Price, in The Naughty Flirt (1931).

The difference between the two -- both of them over-the-knee, both delivered by hand, and both superbly photographed -- is, in my humble opinion, that whereas Kirby Grant really whaled into Ms. Davis' bottom "with both barrels," I'm pretty sure that Paul Price took it fairly easy on Alice White.

If you have a copy of that clip, watch it again and notice how he seems to "pull his punches" by not smacking her gorgeous fanny full-power. The sound effects were, I think, pretty obviously added after the scene was shot. Still, it's adorable how she stands up and watches him leave, and delicately rubs her bruised behind in semi-closeup.

I also like that you remember Walter Koenig's "spanking" of Brooke Bundy in the Gidget TV episode, Gidget's Foreign Policy (1965). But the reason I don't have that scene near the top of my list is that Ms. Bundy receives ONLY ONE SWAT. True, we "hear" other swats, but since we can't see them, they didn't happen.

Sorry if I seem argumentative. It's just that I appreciate spanking scenes that show us real action, not just simulated action. McLintock (1963). of course, is tops. So is the aforementioned She Wrote the Book. And leave us not forget the magnificent spanking Rod Cameron dishes out to Yvonne DeCarlo in Frontier Gal (1945). That's another one I think was delivered with "both barrels."

But we seem to have gone astray of the topic title, which is "Sitcom Spankings." So I'll shut up now and let you reminisce in peace, about these lovely scenes that have come our way and still live, by virtue of home video.

Cheers,
Dan

I see that YouTube has the JoanDavisChannel with many of the show's episodes on. Haven't looked through all of them yet, though, to see if the spanking ones are there.
