Here's the background to this:
Roughly a month ago 19 year old Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki played in Luxemburg against the unknown Anne Kremer. Wozniacki is currently ranked No 4 on the women's world rankings.She led the match 7:5 and 5:0 (meaning she was just 4 points away from winning the match and totally dominating her opponent), when she claimed to have hurt her leg.
Her father came to her and suggested - in spite of the score - giving up. His suggestion could be heard by anyone via a microphone, as the match was broadcast live on the internet.
Not too surprisingly high bets were instantly placed via Internet on the chanceless Kremer - and Wozniacki actually gave up the match. The WTA suspectedmatch / bet manipulation and started a investigation about the incident.
We now know that Wozniacki accepted the offer of an internal punishment to close the case
!
