Admittedly, calling this a "spanking scene" is pretty generous on my part. However, the most interesting aspect of it, is the spankee, or is it? Laura Branigan was a platinum artist with her debut album, featuring such hits as Gloria and (being an avid ex-GTA: Vice City player) the one I'm more familiar with, Self Control. Oddly, she stars in this highly inept film, about sorority girls who endeavor to start backyard mud wrestling (of course, to save their sorority house, why else?) from there, they end up being convinced to go to Las Vegas to compete for "The Mud Wrestling World Championship". It's all very bizarre, and it's not anywhere near as sleazy as a film like this needs to be, but I suppose that contributes to its utter strangeness. Anyhow, during Laura's match, she is completely dominated by her opponent; "Lungs". Lungs spanks Branigan, in concert with each number of the referee's 3 count. Botched wrestling rules aside, this scene is constructed horribly and it leaves me with some questions that may never be answered. Key among them, is Branigan actually rolling around in the mud, in this scene? There's no credited stunt double for Branigan, that sure looks like her butt, when she's face down in the mud, but basic filmmaking dictates, that you get a reaction shot, after she gets thrown face-first into the mud. Now, this could simply be bad filmmaking. It could be that Branigan rolled around in the mud for a few minutes and decided to put her foot down, so they didn't get all of the shots they needed to put a proper scene together. It's also very strange that she's the lead sorority girl and her character gets jobbed out in seconds, like a scrub.
No good reason for her to be invthat movie since she was at the peak of her career in 1984.
She didn't have a goid management thought and said in one of her interviews at this time that she had a million dollar lawsuit going on with her former manager.
Which of course does not explain accepting a role in a low budget production at all...except acting besides an Oscar winner.
I guess she could have aimed much higher with a better management.
