Brimstone (2016)

What a dark, sinister and depressing Neo-Western! The Reverend (Guy Pearce) is certainly one of the most guresome and garstliest characters ever onscreen. Full of religios zeal and violent, abusive and sexually disgusting (he tries to marry his own daughter and let's not talk about the granddaughter) ever. But the whole movie just oozes despair and hopelessness.
I can't quite decide whether this is a brilliant movie or an abhorrent one. Maybe both. It'll leave you somewhat broken and exhausted after 2 1/2 hours though.

Let's not talk about the burst of domestic violence towards everyone in his family, mostly with a belt, uncontrolled and full body or back. I won't include it here and I'm happy I don't have to since those are not spankings in the sense of this site and often include minors.

Let's just leave it at this rather controlled punishment (back whipping) to which his wife (Carice van Houten) submits.
